Water Bowls For Baby Snakes

I start my baby boas and ball pythons in 6qt shoebox tubs. I’ve always had a problem with the snake spilling their water bowls. Recently, Clay English told me about a style of deli cup that he uses. I ordered two cases and absolutely love them. I have over a hundred baby boas and some baby ball pythons all using these cups now. Not one spilt water bowl. Not one. The cups are just tall enough that they cannot be flipped over.

You can find them here: Link to deli cups. The picture on the website is wrong. Trust me, you will love these as water bowls in 6qt bins.

Once my babies outgrow the 6qt shoebox tub, I move them to a 15qt. I have two styles of the 15qt tub. One is the Iris STC-410 and the other is the Sterilite 1754. The deli cups work in the Iris 15qt tub too. However, the Sterilite 1754 is a taller tub. Therefore, for these I use heavyweight crock dishes.

She’s Gonna Blow!!!

This is Marge. She is a Dubay Line Orangetail Hypo boa. As you can see, she is HUGE. Actually, the pictures in no way show how stuffed she really is. She still has about 2 weeks left. I can’t wait!!! She was bred with a really nice salmon jungle boa.

This is the same girl that produced my arabesque litter last year. She is twice as big as she was with that litter. Maybe twice the babies?

I was so happy with the babies she had last year. The color she passed on was amazing. With each shed those babies keep getting better. These babies should be even better!

2008 Boa Pairings

We had some ups and downs this boa breeding season. We were really bummed out with the results of a few litters, but really excited and happy with the others. We have one more female left to drop.  This is the girl that produced the hypo arabesque babies last year. These should be some insane salmon jungle babies!

Here is a list of our 2008 boa pairings:

  • Het albino x coral albino - (11/30/2007) (POS 2/5/08) (Babies born 5/14/08 - 2 live albinos born but died the next day, 9 slugs) - The good news about this breeding is that the female proved out to be het albino.
  • Kahl albino x jungle het albino - (Introduced 11/30/2007) (Possible ovulation 2/5/2008) (NO POS) (Babies born 6/7/08) - We got some sweet albino jungle boas in this litter!
  • Dubay pastel x hog cross male - (11/30/2007) (Ovulated 2/15/08) (POS March 1st) (Babies born 6/12/08)
  • Big girl (normal) x arab male (added last week of Jan) (Maybe POS March 14 - very small ovulation) (Due June 27th) (slugged out June 21)
  • Dubay pastel x hypo - (Did not witness an ovulation or POS) (Babies born 7/1/2008)
  • Scarlet hypo x salmon jungle (introduced first week of Feb) (3/16 - starting to see swelling) (POS April 15) (Due July 29th) - I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS ONE!

Well, that’s it for this year. I did have a few other parings, but they didn’t take. Maybe this coming season.

Amazing Baby Boas

On August 18, 2007, our pastel hypo red tail boa which was bred with an arabesque male had babies. This was her first litter. She gave us twenty-six amazing babies. Five hypo arabesque, nine arabesque, four hypo, and eight normal babies. There were no slugs or still born.

Here she is in a dark phase…

Pile of baby boas

I was really amazed by this girls babies! Before they had their first shed, I could tell they were awesome.

Of the five hypo arabesque babies, I’m keeping two. A male and a female. Here’s a pre-shed picture of a hold back hypo arabesque…

These babies will make for some terrific future projects. Imagine the potential of these babies when injected into any project such as Arabesque Sunglows, use your imagination! We would love to hold all of these back, but just can’t keep everything. I guarantee, whomever ends up adding these animals into their collection will not be disappointed!
