Jungle Boa Het Albino

Last night I was taking pictures of Jungle boas het albino that I’m selling. I found one I really didn’t realize I had. When I say I didn’t realize I had her, I mean I didn’t know how stunning this boa was.

I was in awe by this girl. These pictures do her no justice at all. In person, her color is so bright and amazing. I was taking pictures of boas for sale. However, this girl will probably stay here.

What do you think?

Daytona National Reptile Breeders’ Expo 2008

My son Matt and I went to the “Daytona National Reptile Breeders’ Expo 2008″ this past weekend. We had a blast! I spent most of my time behind a table with my friend Ryan Homsey of TopNotchBoas. It was a great time. We got to meet so many new people in the hobby. We were also able to put many faces to names we know from the Internet.

On Saturday, Matt walked around with a video recorder. He got some great footage! I have to say, I think he’s getting really good at video editing. Check out his YouTube video.

Got Tegu!

My son and I have wanted a tegu for the longest time. We were looking for a nice Argentine Black and White hatchling. Well, we finally got one! We ended up with a really nice hybrid. He’s an Argentine Black and White / Red cross. I say “he”, but I’m not sure of the sex yet. I’ll get the probes out this weekend and find out. We’re hoping it’s a boy. Either way, it’s a keeper.

For now, the little guy will live in a big screen cage on our lanai. He’ll get plenty of Florida sunlight along with the proper humidity that he needs. When he gets larger, we’ll build a nice outdoor pen for him to live in.

This kid will be fun to watch grow!

Will Deadly Pythons Spread Beyond Florida?

Many scientists fear that the Burmese python population living in the Florida Everglades will quickly find their way to as many as 32 states within the US. These claims have been proven false by ecological niche models published in a recent research article.

A Nice Hypo Boa

I was taking pictures last night of boas I’m going to list for sale. I have a couple orange tail hypo boas from last year that I have been watching mature and trying to decide whether to keep or not. This female is turning out real nice. I love the big saddles on her tail. She may just have to stay here.

Water Bowls For Baby Snakes

I start my baby boas and ball pythons in 6qt shoebox tubs. I’ve always had a problem with the snake spilling their water bowls. Recently, Clay English told me about a style of deli cup that he uses. I ordered two cases and absolutely love them. I have over a hundred baby boas and some baby ball pythons all using these cups now. Not one spilt water bowl. Not one. The cups are just tall enough that they cannot be flipped over.

You can find them here: Link to deli cups. The picture on the website is wrong. Trust me, you will love these as water bowls in 6qt bins.

Once my babies outgrow the 6qt shoebox tub, I move them to a 15qt. I have two styles of the 15qt tub. One is the Iris STC-410 and the other is the Sterilite 1754. The deli cups work in the Iris 15qt tub too. However, the Sterilite 1754 is a taller tub. Therefore, for these I use heavyweight crock dishes.

Bad Odds

Our first ball python clutch of the season hatched. This was a Pied x Normal breeding. Bad odds though. All six babies are male. :(

Oh well… We still have a few more HET Pied clutches yet to hatch. I can’t complain anyway. These babies are all healthy and beautiful.
